Industry

Through an immersive event and strategic PR, the City of Irvine reshaped public perception – showcasing tangible progress and building excitement for what’s next.

The Situation

The City of Irvine is undertaking one of the most ambitious civic developments in the country: the transformation of the Great Park into the largest municipal park project in the United States. Spanning more than 1,347 acres, the project is a bold testament to the city’s legacy of master planning and innovation. However, despite the scale and significance of the undertaking, public perception had not kept pace with progress. Idea Hall was brought in by the City and Councilmember Mike Carroll to not only to produce and promote the 2025 State of the Great Park event, but also to help reshape the narrative of the Great Park— shifting attention away from outdated notions of stalled momentum and instead spotlighting the bold, tangible advancements underway. The goal was to unveil key elements of the park’s evolution, elevate public perception, drive widespread community participation, and secure strong, positive media coverage across Orange County.

The Solution

Working hand-in-hand with the City of Irvine, Idea Hall led the development and execution of the State of the Great Park event — from concept to completion. The team supported all aspects of strategic event planning and curated an immersive on-site experience that brought the City’s vision to life through interactive exhibits, performances, and partner activations. Idea Hall also organized an exclusive media preview the day prior, offering outlets a behind-the-scenes look and the unveiling of Whoosh — a fully electric, autonomous aerial transit system set to operate within the park. To amplify reach, the team secured and produced a series of high-impact media moments including five live segments with Good Day LA on FOX 11, a front-page exclusive in the Orange County Register, broadcast coverage from KTLA, and influencer engagement.

The Impact

The event successfully brought together thousands of community members, stakeholders, and local leaders for a one-of-a-kind celebration of innovation, legacy, and place-making. Through immersive exhibits, live entertainment, and interactive partner booths, the public was invited to experience the full vision for the Great Park — not just as a destination, but as a legacy in the making. Media coverage exceeded expectations, spotlighting the City’s future-forward approach and generating buzz around Whoosh and the four major development zones of the park. In addition to robust media coverage, a curated group of local influencers attended and shared content from the event, helping expand awareness and engagement across digital platforms. With more than 20M media impressions, 970K broadcast viewers, 800K social media views, and 3,000 attendees, Idea Hall helped position the Great Park as one of the most ambitious and inspiring public space projects in the nation.
