Our work is driven by collaboration, curiosity, and a commitment to understanding the communities our clients serve. By combining thoughtful strategy with creative execution, we help organizations build trust, strengthen visibility, and create campaigns that resonate beyond a single moment.
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, May served as an opportunity to spotlight the importance of accessible resources, community-centered support, and purpose-driven communications that help foster awareness, connection, and meaningful impact.
Throughout the month, that commitment continued to guide the work we do every day, supporting initiatives centered on awareness, connection, and community impact.
Mental Health Awareness Month: Why It Matters
Mental health continues to be one of the most urgent public health challenges in the United States, affecting individuals, families, and communities across every demographic.
Today:
- 1 in 5 U.S. adults experiences a mental health condition each year
- Nearly 50 million Americans are affected annually
- Millions of Californians continue to face barriers to timely and accessible care
- In Orange County and Los Angeles County, the demand for mental health and crisis services continues to rise
Sources: National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Mental Health America (MHA), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and the California Department of Health Care Services.
Mental Health Awareness Month serves as a reminder that just awareness is not enough. Meaningful impact requires continued education, accessible communication, trusted partnerships, and ongoing community engagement.
Why Purpose-Driven Communications Matter
Today’s audiences expect more from organizations than visibility alone. They want transparency, authenticity, and communications that reflect real community impact.
Mental health awareness campaigns demonstrate how thoughtful communications can help organizations:
- Build trust
- Strengthen engagement
- Foster community connection
- Support long-term public awareness efforts
This is especially powerful for healthcare, nonprofit, and public sector organizations seeking to create a lasting impact.
Supporting the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health
Our work with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) focused on expanding mental health awareness, strengthening community engagement, and improving access to critical mental health resources across one of the most diverse counties in the nation.
As the nation’s largest public mental health department, LACDMH provides care, resources, and support services for individuals and communities throughout Los Angeles County, with a focus on accessibility, equity, prevention, and community-centered mental health care.
A key component of this work included supporting the launch and ongoing development of the ARISE Quarterly Stakeholder Newsletter through LACDMH’s Anti-Racism, Inclusion, Solidarity and Empowerment (ARISE) Division. Created specifically for stakeholders, partners, advocates, allies, and individuals with lived experience, the newsletter serves as a platform to elevate voices, share stories, and foster stronger community connection.
Centered on inclusion, empowerment, and representation, the initiative reflects a broader commitment to ensuring mental health communications are not only informative, but community-driven and accessible.

Through this work, communications efforts helped:
- Expand awareness around mental health programs, services, and initiatives across Los Angeles County
- Create a dedicated platform for individuals with lived experience to share their voices and stories
- Strengthen engagement with stakeholders, advocates, peer supporters, and community organizations
- Reinforce culturally relevant, inclusive messaging aligned with ARISE’s mission and values
- Support stronger coordination and communication across LACDMH’s extensive network of partners
- Foster connection, visibility, and representation within underserved communities
By helping stakeholders stay informed, engaged, and connected, these efforts play an important role in extending the reach and impact of mental health services throughout Los Angeles County while supporting conversations rooted in equity, inclusion, and community care.
