Idea Hall is Giving Back: 4,470 Pounds of Apples to Feed OC Families

September 12, 2024

The USDA report on Household Food Security released last week showed that food insecurity in the United States increased by 6% in 2023, with an estimated 47 million people living in food-insecure households, including nearly 14 million children.

With this in mind, on a recent August afternoon, the Idea Hall team took a break from the office to give back to the community at the Second Harvest Food Bank Distribution Center, a 501(c) nonprofit on a mission to provide equitable nutrition to every citizen in Orange County.

Senior Account Director Hiba Aboulhosn takes the “wheel” of the original second harvest truck on a break from the apple packing operations.

About Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County

Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County is dedicated to ending hunger in the local community by providing dignified, equitable and consistent access to nutritious food to those in need. Through partnerships with local nonprofits, schools, and community programs, they distribute fresh groceries and pantry goods to families, seniors, children and others across Orange County.

The team sorted and packaged over 4,470 pounds of apples! Any apples that are not able to be distributed will be given a second purpose as compost for the Harvest Solutions Farm nearby.

Let’s Get to Work!

As part of the afternoon shift, the Idea Hall crew channeled their dedication to service into preparing the apples for distribution. Our team rolled up their sleeves and got to work, sorting and packaging an impressive 4,470 pounds of fresh apples in just under 2 hours.

Other members of the team helped make the bags that apples and other produce will eventually be sorted into.

These nutritious apples will soon find their way to families across Orange County through Second Harvest’s partner network, ensuring that the community’s most vulnerable have access to fresh produce.

Whether we’re crafting creative campaigns or giving our time, our commitment to spreading goodness remains at the heart of everything we do.

The fruits of our labor, ready to be sent to partner organizations and distributors throughout the county.
