Every summer when I was a kid, my extended family would get together at
my grandma's lake house in Minocqua, Wisconsin. It's been several years
since I've been, so for my vacation this year, there was no where else I
wanted to go for a little R&R--conveniently, my cell phone won't work at
the house. Minocqua is a quaint little town way up north where we spend
our days waterskiing, sailing, windsurfing, fishing, and biking. When
we do venture into town, there is one place we never forget to stop:
Dan's Minocqua Fudge.
This old fashioned candy shop and ice cream parlor has been around as
long as anyone can remember and you can watch the fudge being made in
huge silver mixers and spread on giant marble slabs. No matter what
your favorite kind is--plain, turtle macadamia nut, marshmallow, peanut
butter, mint, etc.--there is little debate that this is some of the
creamiest fudge around! (Just ask anyone at Idea Hall who got a
sampling).
