George's Greek Cafe

September 10 , 2007

Why did you recommend it?

George’s has become my favorite restaurant since it moved to the Belmont Shore neighborhood just about a year ago. The family owned and operated restaurant has truly, as they say, bought a little piece of Greece to southern California.

Using old family recipes as the main dishes on the menu has kept local Belmont Shore residents (such as me) coming back for more again and again. My personal favorite is the simple yet delicious gyro plate. However, before diving into the main course, I suggest trying the Saganaki appetizer. The battered and fried Greek kasseri cheese pairs perfectly with warmed pita bread. Be prepared though. The cheese is flamed right at your table while, in a George’s Greek Café tradition, the entire restaurant joins you in screaming Opa!

The café offers half off the price of all wine bottles on Monday nights and live music on weeknights. The atmosphere is always light and happy filled with people looking to have a good time with some really good food. George’s has become such a favorite, if you plan on going around dinner time, I suggest making reservations. Tables fill up quickly with people trying to get a little taste of Greece in southern California.
